So we have decided to keep the dog. [after spending a gazillion dollars on her] OMG is she a handful. She’s great and very well behaved but she also has issues staying alone and well we work! Plus I’ve been skipping xfit just so I can take her out on runs. I wonder if I can even bring her to xfit on days that I do go… you know just tie her up in a corner outside?

So this new addition is a big change into our little world. We are now faced with questions we didn’t have to ask before. Can we go to dinner, alone? Not until her alone issues are resolved. Is Vegas going to happen? Probably not. What are we going to do about our chewed up front door? Aye. Geez Louise. This is worse than a baby…

  1. is it a shelter dog... if so... return her now... and don't look back... we've had two shelter dogs with MAJOR issues... one separation anxiety that was NEVER able to be fixed....I can give you some hints and ideas if your interested... but seriously... after 10 months of craziness ... we returned the pup...paying puppy prozac what not ok with us... good luck

Egad, I'm on the edge of getting a dog too but was thinking of an oldster from the pound.

    Sar, you sound tramatized!

  3. Sarah has a good point. Some dogs can be broken from this, others can't. I had a sweet German shepherd for 4 years. We had family living in a back house and that kept her from going nuts every time we left. For the most part, someone could be around. BUT as soon as we moved and had to go to work and leave her alone, she would break out..yes, even from a fenced yard; or whine and bark, make a mess..etc.AND we even had another dog to keep her company; she didn't care, she wanted to be with us.I ended up returning her to German Shepard Rescue..they do not destroy them. I was heartbroken, and to this day feel sad when I think that I could not keep her when she loved us so much.

Talk with a professional trainer. Take charge now or return the dog if possible. You will not enjoy each other under these circumstances. Dogs like this may need a home with a retired person who is around a lot and who can take the dog with them on most outings.

Sorry to sound harsh. I adore dogs, but the fit must be right between the dog and your life style or you both will be heartbroken in the end.

I really do wish you well. Call or e-mail me if you want any further discussion.
